Buyout Policy

"Buyout" vs. "Buy Outright": Two Different Things
This policy covers buying out a piece you're already renting (this page). If you purchased an item directly through Buy Outright (without renting it first), that's a separate one-time purchase with its own 30-day return window; see the Return Policy, section 10, instead of this page.
You Can Buy Any Rented Item, Any Time
Every piece you rent has a buyout price, shown in the app and on the website whenever you're viewing that piece. You can buy it outright, at that price, at any point during your rental: there's no minimum rental period required before you're allowed to buy, beyond having the item in your possession. This applies to Trip Plan pieces too (see the Rental Terms, section 14); you can buy one out instead of returning it, the same as any other rental.
How the Buyout Price Is Set
A piece's buyout price starts below its original retail value and decreases the more it's been rented, down to a floor so it never approaches $0. This means a piece that's been rented several times before you get it will generally have a lower buyout price than a brand-new piece of the same kind.
Buyout Price Is Independent of Rental Payments
Your monthly rental payments do not accumulate as credit toward a future buyout. The buyout price is a separate, standalone price you pay if and when you decide to buy. It isn't reduced by however much you've already paid in rent. This keeps renting and buying as two clearly separate, transparent options.
Buyout Price Can Change While You're Renting
Because the buyout price is tied to how many times a piece has been rented, the exact number can shift slightly over time. The buyout price shown to you in your active rental in the app or on the website is always the current, accurate price you'd pay to buy it right now.
Completing a Buyout
To buy out an item, use the "Buy" option on your active rental in the app or on davenportwardrobe.com. Once a buyout is complete, the item is yours: there's no return required, and billing for that piece stops immediately.
Buyouts and Damage
If an item has damage beyond normal wear at the time you decide to buy it out, that doesn't block the buyout: you're simply buying the item as-is.
Buyout as an Alternative to a Damage or Non-Return Charge
In some cases (significant damage, or an item not returned within the non-return window), Davenport may charge you the item's buyout price instead of a separate damage or non-return charge. When this happens, you're notified in advance, and once that charge is made, the item is considered yours, the same as any other completed buyout.
