Card Hold / No-Deposit Policy
Last updated: July 2026 · Davenports LLC
What the Protection Hold Is
When you place your first order, Davenport places a $75 refundable protection hold on your payment method. This is a card authorization hold, not a charge: it does not appear as a charge on your statement, and no money moves out of your account. Your bank or card issuer may show it as a pending authorization, the same way a hotel or rental car company holds funds at check-in.
Why We Use a Hold Instead of a Deposit Charge
A pre-authorized hold protects both you and Davenport: you're never actually charged the $75 unless there's real damage or a non-return situation, but Davenport has assurance that funds are available if something needs to be charged. It's functionally the same purpose as a traditional security deposit, just structured as a hold rather than an upfront charge you'd have to wait to get refunded.
When the Hold Is Released
The hold is released once all items from the order it's attached to have been returned and inspected in acceptable condition. Release timing after that point depends on your bank, typically a few business days.
If the Hold Is Partially or Fully Applied
If a returned item has damage beyond normal wear, the cost of that damage may be captured from the hold. If only part of the $75 is captured, the remaining amount is automatically released by Stripe, our payment processor.
One Hold Covers Your Account
You're only ever asked to authorize one $75 hold, placed on your first order. You're not asked to place a new hold for every additional piece you rent afterward.
If You See "$75" on Your Statement
If your bank shows the $75 as a pending authorization, that's expected and normal: it means the hold is active, not that you've been charged. If you ever see $75 appear as an actual posted charge outside of a documented damage or non-return situation (which always comes with 30 days' written notice), contact support@davenportwardrobe.com immediately.
Trip Plans Don't Carry a Hold
This entire policy applies to standard month-to-month rentals and Buy Outright purchases. Trip Plans (a fixed-window rental booked for a specific trip) don't carry a $75 protection hold at all: nothing is authorized on your card beyond the flat trip price at booking. If damage occurs on a Trip Plan piece, it's charged directly rather than drawn from a hold. See the Damage & Lost Items Policy, section 8.
