What to Wear on a Date Night

Match the reservation, not a costume. One outfit you trust beats three you are unsure about.

If you booked a table

  • A navy or charcoal blazer.
  • A dress shirt, a button-down, or a polo whose collar sits cleanly.
  • Dress pants or pressed chinos. Darker reads more serious.
  • Leather shoes or loafers you can actually walk in.

A tie is optional and often too much. If the room is more relaxed than the menu, take the jacket off. You are still dressed.

If it is a drink, not a tasting menu

A henley, a fine knit, or a polo with chinos or five-pocket pants is enough. The fabric should look chosen. A gym tee, a hoodie, and athletic sneakers do not.

A blazer over that same knit is the easy step up if the place turns out nicer than you thought.

Rent it when the month has a few of these

Monthly rental fits a run of dinners, not a single Saturday. Closet pieces ship in 2–3 days. Pieces bought new in your size take about 1–2 weeks. One evening on its own is often better served by clothes you already own. The price is on each piece before you add it.

How rental works

  • Choose the pieces in your size. Closet pieces, the ones we already own, ship in 2–3 days. Pieces we buy new for you take about 1–2 weeks.
  • Rent bills monthly, every 30 days from delivery. Closet pieces have a 30-day minimum; pieces we buy new for you are a 2-month minimum. After any committed months, billing stops when you request the return.
  • Send it back in the prepaid mailer, or buy it for less than retail.
