What to Wear Going Out

Going out sits between the weekend and a wedding. You should look like you decided, and still be able to stand for a few hours.

The pieces that cover most nights

  • A blazer when the plan is dinner, or anywhere you would rather be slightly too sharp.
  • A polo, a henley, or a fine knit when it is a bar, a friend's place, or a casual dinner.
  • Chinos or dress pants. Gym shorts and joggers stay home.
  • Shoes you can walk in: leather, a loafer, or a clean minimal sneaker if the night is actually casual.

One layer you can add later

The easiest version is a knit or a polo, plus a blazer you can put on when you get there. If the room is louder than you expected, the jacket comes off and the outfit still works.

Keep the colors quiet. Navy, grey, white, and one thing with a little texture is enough. A large logo does the deciding for you, and not in your favor.

A month of plans, not one ticket

If a few of these are on the calendar, rent the blazer or the knit for the month and wear it more than once. Closet pieces ship in 2–3 days. Pieces bought new in your size take about 1–2 weeks. After the minimum, send it back in the prepaid mailer or buy it if you keep reaching for it.

How rental works

  • Choose the pieces in your size. Closet pieces, the ones we already own, ship in 2–3 days. Pieces we buy new for you take about 1–2 weeks.
  • Rent bills monthly, every 30 days from delivery. Closet pieces have a 30-day minimum; pieces we buy new for you are a 2-month minimum. After any committed months, billing stops when you request the return.
  • Send it back in the prepaid mailer, or buy it for less than retail.
